Tower of Ouranoupolis

The Tower of Ouranoupolis was constructed before the 14th century and belonged to the metochi (dependency of the monastery) "Prosforion" of the Vatopedi Monastery in Mount Athos. Τoday, the tower building and other utility rooms (barbakas and arsanas) are preserved. Various antiquities from the Pre-Christian and Christian Chalkidiki are on display in the halls of the Tower. A separate section is dedicated to the couple Sydney and Joice Loch who lived in the tower in the 20th century. The couple offered sustenance and support to the residents of Ouranoupolis who had fled Asia Minor as refugees.
