Ionian Islands

Μuseum of Zakynthos

The Museum of Zakynthos is housed in a magnificent neoclassical building located at the central square of the city of Zakynthos. It features one of the most important collections of paintings of Post-Byzantine art. Religious icons of the Cretan School, "Cretan-heptanesian" (Cretan-Ionian) icons and works of Ionian naturalism, dating back to the period spanning from the 15th to the 19th century are exhibited in its galleries, as well as Byzantine and Post-Byzantine frescoes, wood-carved altarpieces, ecclesiastical objects and sculptures from currently damaged temples across the island.
